Dear Parents and Guardians,

In partnership with VBPS, your child has the opportunity to  participate in   BookNook one-on-one tutoring to enhance their reading skills at no cost.

When will tutoring happen?

• Elementary: Tuesday through Thursday, 4:30-5:00

  • <Extra session @Savage:  M,Tu, Th: 8:15a - 8:45a>

• Owen: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 3:30-4:00

• McBride: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 3:15-3:45

Note: Tutoring will not occur on the Early Release Days on April 3rd and May 1st.

• Owen: May 14th

• McBride: May 15th

What is BookNook?

BookNook's online learning platform helps schools give students extra support in reading. It uses teaching methods that are backed by solid research using well-trained and consistent tutors. This helps students improve their reading skills faster as they participate in BookNook sessions.

Why is attendance important?

BookNook has earned BookNook a Tier 1 classification in ESSA's Tiers of Evidence, indicating its strong efficacy backed by randomized controlled trials. Students who attended 20 or more sessions experienced the most growth in comparison to their peers. It’s important for your child to attend all of their BookNook sessions to get the full benefit of the program. Consistent participation makes the experience more effective, ultimately enhancing your child's academic growth. 

What else do I need to know?

Your child will attend BookNook sessions via Zoom, where they will read books and engage in a variety of online literacy activities with the same vetted tutor for the duration of the program.

School staff will provide support in the classroom for students.

Transportation home from school will be provided for all elementary afternoon sessions, provided you register and request transportation
