Welcome from the nationally recognized Belleville High
School Bands! Under Mr. Nicholas Taylor, Director of Bands and Coordinator
of Instrumental Music, and Mr. Michael Campbell, Associate Director, our
students learn music theory and music appreciation,
and are exposed to innovative computer technology. Through our staff’s
belief in the value of learning, deep love for music, and commitment to academic
and performance excellence, we enjoy a model program recognized throughout
the state. Dedication and commitment are foundational pillars displayed at all
levels of Belleville’s music program. Students may participate in
one of three concert bands, the marching band, the jazz band, or any
number of small chamber ensembles. They obtain valuable
life skills through disciplined practice and study, sharply
focused group rehearsals, and teamwork. The rewards gained
from this relentless pursuit of excellence will serve our students
for a lifetime.
Our nationally recognized bands have received
dozens of invitations to national band events, plus countless prestigious
local, state, and national awards. The 230-member BHS Marching Band is the largest in the state and marched in the 2009
Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit. Our Symphony
Band has been privileged to perform twice at New York’s
Carnegie Hall in the National Concert Band Invitational (in 1997 and
2000). They returned to Carnegie
Hall in April 2003 as one of five high school ensembles in the First Annual New York Wind Band Festival,
returned to Washington, DC, in April 2005 for the Heritage Music Festival,
and performed at the Boston Festival in March 2007. They performed in their
third Bands of America National
Concert Band Invitational in Indianapolis and also returned to the
Michigan Music Conference in 2009.
Nearly 1,000 students, from a district
population of approximately 6,000, participate in the grades 5–12 band
program, including some 350 at the high school alone. Four full-time staff
conduct more than 20 ensembles. The high
school program includes Freshmen Band; Concert
Bands A and B; Symphony Band; Jazz Band; and the Marching Tigers. |
