During his junior year he was Captain of the Cross Country team. Beside Dale Davis’ picture in the 1950 Belleville High School Yearbook is this caption: “True to his work, his word, and his friends.” These are words by which he lives. He was drafted in to the Army in 1952 and served for two years, attaining the rank of Corporal. He earned a sharpshooters medal and also ran in track and field for the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He returned to EMU where he participated with a debate team and was in the National Honorary Forensic Society. He graduated in 1957 with a BS in Business Administration. He was immediately hired by General Motors where he worked for nearly 14 years. During his tenure there, he developed the first computer-based method for determining the cost of an automobile, which had previously been done by manual calculations (i.e. guessing). It was during this time that he earned his MBA by taking night classes at EMU. He left General Motors to complete his Ph.D. in Education Administration. During this time, 1971-1977, he was a full-time faculty member of EMU in the College of Business. In 1977, he was recruited by the newly established Volkswagen of America Corporation to serve as Corporate Auditor, where he developed the Systems and Procedures in Accounting for them. In the fall of 1992, Dale accepted a full-time faculty position in the MBA program at the University of Michigan, Flint. There he taught at least 15 different courses in the undergraduate and graduate business programs and won the Outstanding Teacher Award twice. He recognized the need for management and accounting information systems courses in the business curriculum, so developed them, making U of M among the first business schools to offer such courses. They are now required as part of the graduate business curriculum. On his official retirement in 1997, he was appointed Professor Emeritus, and continues to teach courses at U of M, Flint. Dale married Alice Drexler on May 9, 1954. They raised five children: Cheryl, Mark, Patrick, Eric, Glen, and Peter. He enjoys the company of his 11 grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
